ABOUT US

We are a nature based Preschool located on an enchanting little Urban Farm in Kansas City.

A Montessori education is referred to as an “Education for Life”. We are delighted to be able to offer this life enriching Montessori program to our families. We offer a child-directed and teacher-guided hands-on learning experience. Our program is an authentic Montessori school blended with gardening, art and nature play.

We are a small school providing care for children ages 3-6. Our teacher student ratio is 1:6. We strive to feel like a home-away-from-home for your child, bridging the gap between home and school life. We believe in nurturing your child’s social, emotional, physical and academic well-being. We engage every child on their own level, helping them develop at their own pace.

Our goal is to create a place where every child has the freedom to grow into the person they are intended to be, in a constant environment of wonder & self-discovery.

"We discovered that education is not something which the teacher does, but that it is a natural process which develops spontaneously in the human being."

In the Garden

Montessori is carried through into the garden, where the principles of self-initiated learning and sensorial exploring are found. Our students are walking laboratories: their fingers and arms are units of measurement. Their eyes, ears, and tongues analyze the natural world around them… Children, when in the garden, can use language and practice early math and science in a meaningful context. They also take pride in the food they grow, and form an early foundation of healthy eating habits.

In the Community

Our beautiful, inviting classroom is tailored to fit the needs of each child. Our elegant simple materials engage our students in a meaningful way. Children are given opportunities to use their creative drive in their own learning style while the teacher acts as guide for them. The inner workings of classroom allow the children to embrace, “freedom within responsibility” while learning how to care for each other and their environment.

Just as we nurture and grow plants in our garden, we nurture our students and watch them blossom into self-confident, happy global citizens.

Students and their families are exposed to a sustainable way of life on the farm and encouraged to infuse lessons-learned into their home lives. Regular workshops and farm work days are provided so families and the community can experience the inner workings of the farm and have lessons on composting, homesteading, nutrition and conscious parenting. Our Free Little Library is a permanent installation supported by our school community for the community at large.
